I used to be a big fan of craigslist.
Then today happened.
I had found a children’s patio set with a table, umbrella and two kiddie chairs for $5.
I emailed the lady and told her that I would take it if it was available and I would pick it up Wed am.
She emailed me back and said, that’s fine. She gave me her address and phone number.
I went today to pick it up. Cars are parked in front of the house, however, no one answers the door.
My two children are screaming in the car.
I call her cell number, no one picks up.
I wait another few minutes, and then drive away.
I come home to the following email:
“Someone offered me $10, so I’m going to give it to them. Sorry.”
Right. Not cool.
Thankfully I had other errands on that side of town so it wasn’t a waisted trip.
But still, she had two days to tell me that she wanted more $$ for them.
Anyhow. I’m done now.
That’s terrible! I would definitely say that using unofficial craigslist etiquette, once you’ve offered the item to someone and they have agreed to pick it up, it’s sold unless that person doesn’t show. If you think you might get a higher offer, you should definitely not commit to selling it to someone right away.
That is really bad! However, I don’t think that is the common Craig’s list experience. We’ve had some really great experiences with Craig’s list.
yeah, i was planning to buy a desk from someone and we were so excited (plus, we had arranged to borrow a friend’s truck). when i called the day of as we are getting ready to leave, they tell me they sold it to someone else. i could have picked it up sooner if i had known it was a problem! it was a bummer
it would seem you may have temporarily forgotten you live in a fallen world.
the only way to not be disappointed is to lower your expectations!
I am sorry however for your pain.
